Union Jack Fashion

The British Flag, also known as the Union Jack, is not just a flag. It seems it is also a fashion brand in itself. It first was seen worn by punk rockers as shirts, skirts and scarves during the seventies.  That fashion conceit never seemed to disappear and it enjoyed a revival in the nineties that has just never gone away until this day. Wearing a British flag has now become high fashion.

One place where you see the Union Jack pattern frequently repeated is in tights.  Designer Pamela Mann makes Union Jack Tights with feet in them that are slightly sheer and feature the pattern slightly sloped.  Jonathan Aston Union makes a similar pair where the center red cross image travels uniformly all the way up the leg so that it repeats to create a mod effect.  Pamela Mann as a version where the central image in the tights faces out on the side of the legs and thigh.

You also see the Jack Crowns of the flag in fashionable items as well. For instance Jonathan Aston Union Jack Crowns make a pair of sheer black tights where this pattern acts a sexy cut-out.

A classic item is the T-shirt with the Union Jack on it. You can get ripped up Vivienne Westwood versions with safety pins in them or you can get any kind of long-sleeved or shirt sleeved shirt with the image replicated on the fabric.  These t-shirts are widely available all over England and online in blue, black red and white colors.

Another popular place to see the Union Jack is on baseball caps. They embellish every type of cap imaginable in every color and style. You also see this symbol embellishing shopping bags.  Sometimes you can get pictures of British royalty such as Kate and William in the middle of the pattern.  It is also quite common to find the image encased in a heart or decorated with a picture of the Sex Pistols.  Another common print is that you will find on shirts, bags and caps is the phrase “Keep Calm and Carry On” with the Union Jack as the backdrop.

If you like this trend than the simplest way to wear it is to simply buy a scarf with an image of the flag on it.
