British Outdoor Wear Designers With Royal Warrants

The best of the British clothing designers are also those that have royal warrants. This means that they can promote their designs to the royal family.

One of the most famous of royal warrants is to Aquascutum. It used to rain all the time in Britain, before global warming and the company, established in 1853 on Regent Street in London makes raincoats.  They are famous for their rain coats and made coats for soldiers of all ranks in both world wars.  The company also makes a famous array of scarves with a large bold checked pattern.

Burberry is another British raincoat maker and today is known as a luxury fashion house. The designs of Burberry are a favorite of Elizabeth II.  It is the 98th most valuable brand in the world. It was first founded in 1856 and was the first company to use gabardine in its designs. The Burberry Prosum label is the most expensive and luxurious label but the company makes much less expensive clothing too. It also makes perfumes like Burberry British, Burberry Sport and Burberry Weekend.

Most English people follow the example of the Queen and wear Musto clothing. This is a clothier that specializes in items for the great outdoors. It is a newer company for one with a Royal Warrant and was founded by Keith Musto in 1976. The company mainly sells sailing wear, equestrian wear and shooting apparel.  Musto is also well known for sponsoring stars at Olympic events including equestrians Zara Philips and Kristina Cook.

Another traditional company is Turnbull & Asser which is known for it’s  socks  shirts and sweaters. This “hosier” company was founded in London in 1895. It uses the image of a hunting horn with a Q above it as it’s symbol.  This clothier is a favorite of Prince Charge and it is today owned by Ali Al-Fayed.  These shirts were featured in the 1974 film The Great Gatsby and the television character John Steed of The Avengers was also fond of wearing these traditionally cut  shirts and sweater.  The British character of James Bond also wears Turnabull & Asser clothing  in the film Casino Royale.

Yet another very British supplier of outdoor supplies to the royal family is Swaine Adeney. This company is a luggage maker that is very famous for it’s umbrellas and hats. These accessories were featured in the Steven Spielberg Film “Raiders of  The Lost Ark.”
