Best British Insults

The Brits are full of the best insults ever and many have a nice twist of their own. Here is a list in case you need to familiarize yourself with what a local may have called you on the way to the pub.

The Brits really love to pick on a person’s appearance.  For instance a plug-ugly person means a very ugly person.  A minger is a very unattractive woman.   A daft cow refers to a dumb, large woman. If you are manky you are absolutely disgusting. If you’re looks have “gone to the dogs” it means that you really look rotten!  Your looks have really deteriorated.

However no culture probably has so many nick names for people who are considered to be a bit less intelligent.   There are many words for idiot in Anglaise including Wanker, Barmy, Git, Nutter, Pillock, Plonker, Prat, Twit, Skiver, Wazzock and Berk.

If you are cheap and don’t leave a nice tip your British waiter might later refer to you as a Ligger (a freeloader), a Gannet (greedy person), a Minge Bag  (cheap person), Naff (tacky),  Dodgy ( a bit criminal) , Maggot (a despicable person) or a Tosser ( a big jerk.)

The English are also fond of calling crazy people interesting names.  For instance if you have lost the plot then it means you have gone crazy or are completely stupid.  If you are barmy you are stupid or crazy.  A gormlessperson is one who lacks complete common sense.

If someone calls you a Muppet in England it means that you are completely devoid of all common sense.   If you are a brilliant person but inferior in some way then you are called a ninny.  An intelligent person who loves the arts is “airy fairy”. An individual who is gormless has a complete lack of common sense.  If you are a wazzock then you are so dumb you can only be trusted to do manual labor. If  you are “dead from the neck up” it means you are completely stupid.  If you are not “battling on a full wicket” it means that you are an eccentric person who is a little crazy or odd.

The British also don’t like lazy people. You would be called a Lazy Sod, which means useless idiot or a Skiver, which means a lazy sod.   You also do not want to be a lady of questionable morals or you could be called a slag, scrubber or a trollop!!
